For SMEs
Web accessibility for SMEs, without the jargon
You do not need to be an expert in accessibility or regulations. SiteNorma helps you understand which rules may apply, what to fix first and how to brief the team that maintains your website.
Do I have to comply?
It depends on three things:
- What service you offer. Law 11/2023 applies to specific services: e-commerce, banking, passenger transport, e-books, electronic communications and access to audiovisual media services. In Spain it also covers electricity, water and gas suppliers, travel agencies and tour operators, and social networks.
- Who you offer it to. It applies to services for consumers. If you only work with businesses, in principle it does not apply to you directly.
- Your size. Microenterprises that provide services are exempt: fewer than 10 people and an annual turnover or annual balance sheet total of €2 million or less.
Our free questionnaire gives you an indicative answer in two minutes.
Even if you are not required to
- The European Commission estimates that around 87 million people in the EU have some form of disability. Many more have temporary or age-related difficulties.
- Many accessibility improvements overlap with good usability and SEO practice.
- If you work for the public sector or for large companies, they may require it in your contract.
- If your business grows and is no longer a microenterprise, the work will already be done.
A six-step plan
Order matters: first whatever stops people buying or getting in touch, then everything else.
Check whether it applies to you
Answer the questionnaire and save the result.
Analyse your website
Start with the most important pages: home, services, contact and, if you sell online, the checkout process.
Fix what is critical
Critical and serious issues first. Each one shows whether it is a job for development, design or content.
Do the manual review
Our guide takes you criterion by criterion, with instructions written for non-experts.
Publish your information
Prepare the accessibility information or a voluntary accessibility statement and link to it from your website.
Keep an eye on changes
Run the analysis again every time you publish new content to catch anything that breaks. Scheduled weekly analyses will arrive with the paid plans.
If another company maintains your website
This is the most common situation. SiteNorma helps you understand each other:
- Invite your provider to your organisation as an editor or viewer, without sharing passwords.
- Send them the PDF report or the XLSX file with the issues, the affected code and the guidance to fix them.
- Check for yourself, with a new analysis, that the fixes work.
